US President Donald Trump has said that he would prefer to reach an agreement with Iran but stressed that all options remain on the table.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed that military strikes carried out against Iran during last year’s twelve-day conflict prevented Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
He also argued that the United States inflicted significant damage on Iran’s military capabilities but deliberately avoided targeting all senior military commanders in order to prevent a situation similar to Iraq in 2003.
Meanwhile, US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that Washington has not yet reached a final agreement with Iran, although both sides appear to be moving closer to a potential deal.
At the same time, several American sources have reported that Tehran and Washington have reached a preliminary understanding aimed at extending the ceasefire and easing restrictions affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to those reports, the arrangement still requires final approval from President Trump before it can move forward.
The remarks come as diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified in recent weeks.
Growing speculation continues over the possibility of a broader agreement that could address regional security concerns, maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and other long-standing disputes between the two countries.
Observers say the coming weeks may prove critical in determining whether ongoing negotiations result in a lasting diplomatic breakthrough or renewed confrontation.
