Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, has called the United States the “Great Satan” in response to reported U.S. strikes on targets in southern Iran.
In a message posted on the social media platform X on Wednesday, September 2, Ghalibaf referred to reports of civilian casualties in the recent attacks and said that children and family members were among those killed in incidents in Minab, Lamerd, and a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak.
He referred to an alleged attack on a school in Minab, a sports hall in Lamerd, and a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak, describing them as examples of civilians being targeted.
Ghalibaf wrote: “If a power acts like Satan, chooses targets like Satan, and kills like Satan, that power is Satan.”
Iran’s parliament speaker added that if such a power supports another group or power that, according to him, carries out similar actions, “it itself is the Great Satan.”
The remarks come as Iran has accused the United States of carrying out overnight strikes against targets in the south of the country. Iranian officials have said that several people were killed and wounded in the attacks and that damage was caused to targeted areas.
