Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s minister for the promotion of virtue, prevention of vice and hearing complaints, has urged ministry officials and employees to avoid ethnic and linguistic discrimination, refrain from personal bias and treat the public professionally.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, Hanafi made the remarks during a reform meeting with ministry officials and employees.
He stressed the importance of administrative discipline, responsible performance of duties and treating people in accordance with ethical standards and Islamic principles. He also instructed staff to avoid discriminatory attitudes and personal conduct while carrying out their duties within the Taliban’s system.
Hanafi further emphasized the need to address people’s problems in a timely manner.
The statement did not provide further details about the reasons for holding the meeting or identify specific measures to monitor whether employees follow the instructions.
The remarks come amid continued attention to how the ministry’s officials interact with the public and enforce its directives in Afghanistan. While Hanafi’s statement emphasizes professional conduct and non-discrimination, it does not establish whether new oversight mechanisms or disciplinary measures will be introduced.
The practical significance of the instructions will depend on how they are implemented and whether members of the public have effective ways to report misconduct and obtain remedies for mistreatment.
