North Korea announced on Wednesday that it had tested cruise missiles equipped with artificial intelligence guidance systems during a large military exercise.
Reuters, citing North Korean state media, reported that the drill included tactical ballistic missiles, artillery rockets, and precision-guided cruise missiles supervised by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
According to the report, the weapons were designed for “modern warfare.”
North Korea’s state news agency said Kim Jong Un told military commanders that the exercises confirmed the combat readiness of cruise missile units deployed near the border with South Korea.
Pyongyang claimed that the missiles are equipped with advanced navigation systems and AI-assisted guidance controls capable of striking targets at distances of up to 100 kilometers.
The latest military drill comes as tensions on the Korean Peninsula continue to rise following repeated missile tests and expanding weapons programs by North Korea.
Pyongyang’s missile activities have repeatedly drawn criticism from the United States, South Korea, and Western allies, who view the country’s growing military capabilities as a regional security threat.
