The White House has rejected concerns that recent U.S. strikes on bridges and other infrastructure in Iran could constitute war crimes, insisting that American forces targeted only military objectives and logistical infrastructure linked to military operations.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said Washington maintains that Iran has primarily targeted civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and has also launched attacks against neighboring countries that were not involved in the conflict.
According to Kelly, President Donald Trump instructed the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) to reduce Iran’s ability to carry out such attacks and to hold the Iranian government accountable for its actions.
The White House comments come amid growing international concern over the humanitarian and legal consequences of the escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran.
The allegations made by Washington regarding Iran’s actions, as well as U.S. assertions about the nature of its military targets, have not been independently verified. International observers continue to closely monitor developments as questions over compliance with international humanitarian law remain under scrutiny.
