Taliban police in western Afghanistan say they have detained a woman in connection with the death of an 18-month-old child in the city of Herat.
Sayed Masoud Hosseini, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Herat, said the woman worked as a domestic worker in the family’s home and was employed alongside two other women.
According to Hosseini, preliminary investigations indicate that a personal dispute and hostility between the suspect and her two colleagues may have preceded the incident. He alleged that the woman threw the 18-month-old child from the fifth floor of the building.
Taliban authorities said the child died at the scene as a result of the fall.
Hosseini said security forces detained the woman and that she confessed during the initial investigation to carrying out the act. The case has been referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The Taliban police have not released further details about the identity of the suspect or the child’s family.
The allegations and the reported confession have not been independently verified by NIMRUZ TV.
