US Vice President JD Vance has said that the release of frozen Iranian assets will depend on continued progress in negotiations between Tehran and Washington, making the issue one of the key subjects in upcoming diplomatic discussions.
Speaking on Monday, Vance was asked about the future use of Iran’s blocked financial assets and whether any mechanism would be established to oversee how the funds are spent.
He said the United States has requested Qatar’s assistance in creating a monitoring framework to ensure that any released funds are used in accordance with agreed conditions.
According to Vance, the Qatari government has agreed to cooperate with Washington on overseeing the expenditure of the assets if they are eventually released.
The vice president argued that such a mechanism could benefit both the Iranian people and certain sectors of the American economy, including US agricultural producers.
However, Vance stressed that access to the funds remains conditional on diplomatic progress.
“These funds will not be released unless we continue to see progress,” he said.
He added that the issue of Iran’s frozen assets remains one of the most important items on the agenda for future negotiations between the two countries.
The remarks come as Iranian and American officials continue discussions related to the implementation of the recent memorandum of understanding and the broader effort to advance bilateral negotiations.
The fate of Iran’s frozen assets has long been one of the most sensitive issues in relations between Tehran and Washington, with both sides viewing the matter as closely linked to wider political, economic and security discussions.
From Nimruz TV’s perspective, Vance’s comments indicate that Washington intends to use access to frozen assets as both an incentive and a negotiating tool. The approach suggests that economic measures will remain closely tied to diplomatic developments, making the future of the funds dependent on the success of ongoing talks and the level of trust established between the two sides.
