Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has welcomed the finalization of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as a development that could benefit both countries, the region and the international community.
In a message published on the social media platform X, Karzai expressed support for efforts aimed at reducing tensions and resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiation.
He described the agreement as a positive step toward strengthening regional stability and reducing the risk of further conflict.
Karzai also praised the diplomatic efforts of regional countries, including Pakistan, Qatar and other parties involved in facilitating the talks between Washington and Tehran.
The former Afghan leader emphasized the importance of peace and stability in both the region and the wider world, arguing that preserving and strengthening them is a shared responsibility among governments.
Expressing optimism about the diplomatic process, Karzai said he hopes negotiations will continue until a final outcome is achieved and lasting peace and security are secured.
His remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an agreement between Washington and Tehran had been finalized following months of negotiations and heightened regional tensions.
At the same time, Iranian officials have stated that the agreement is expected to be formally signed on Friday, although full details of its provisions have not yet been publicly released.
The emerging agreement has generated significant regional and international reactions, with many observers describing it as one of the most consequential diplomatic developments in recent years.
Supporters argue that a successful implementation could reduce tensions across the Middle East, improve regional security and create new opportunities for diplomatic engagement. Critics, however, continue to call for closer scrutiny of the agreement’s details before assessing its long-term impact.
As anticipation grows ahead of the formal signing, governments and analysts across the region are closely monitoring what could become a major turning point in U.S.-Iran relations.
