Local sources in Bamyan province say a 20-year-old man named Mohammad Amin was killed after resisting an alleged attempt by armed men to abduct his 12-year-old sister.
According to the sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening near Shamsuddin village in Yakawlang district, where the family had traveled to a mountainous summer grazing area for the season.
Reports indicate that four armed individuals attempted to kidnap the young girl. Mohammad Amin reportedly intervened and confronted the suspects in an effort to prevent the abduction.
Local residents say at least two bullets struck the young man during the confrontation, resulting in his death. Despite the shooting, the attackers allegedly failed to take the girl and fled the area.
A local resident told media outlets that one of the suspected attackers was killed early Friday during a clash with Taliban forces in the area.
The same source claimed that the individual had previously been associated with the Taliban, although this allegation has not been independently verified.
Reports further suggest that three other suspects remain at large and that efforts to locate and arrest them are ongoing.
Sources have also alleged that the individual killed in the later clash had previously been involved in the killing of his own wife. This claim has likewise not been independently confirmed.
The Taliban have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and the details provided by local sources remain unverified by independent observers.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents and highlights ongoing security challenges in remote rural areas, where access to law enforcement and emergency assistance can be limited.
As investigations continue, questions remain regarding the identities of the suspects, the motive behind the alleged kidnapping attempt, and the circumstances surrounding the subsequent clash in which one of the alleged attackers was reportedly killed.
