US President Donald Trump has announced that an understanding has been reached to prevent a renewed Israeli attack on Beirut following recent threats by Israeli officials.
According to Trump, the agreement was achieved after direct consultations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect contacts with Hezbollah through intermediaries.
The US president said both sides had agreed to halt military actions against one another and avoid further escalation.
Recent Israeli warnings regarding possible military operations against Beirut triggered widespread concern across Lebanon, prompting many residents of the southern suburbs of the capital to leave their homes amid fears of a larger conflict.
The developments come as the Israeli military announced that it had taken control of the historic and strategic Shqif Castle area in southern Lebanon, describing the position as an important achievement in its campaign against Hezbollah.
At the same time, reports indicate that airstrikes and military operations have continued in parts of southern Lebanon. Israeli authorities have also issued evacuation warnings for several towns and villages in the area.
Despite Trump’s announcement, uncertainty remains over the durability of the reported understanding and whether it can effectively prevent a broader confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah.
Neither Hezbollah nor Israeli officials have publicly confirmed the details of the arrangement described by the US president.
Observers say the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the reported agreement can reduce tensions and prevent further military escalation in Lebanon.
The situation continues to be closely monitored as regional and international actors seek to avoid a wider conflict that could further destabilize the Middle East.
