Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said Afghanistan can only achieve progress and development through a united, educated society with a strong sense of national ownership.
In an Eid al-Adha message published Wednesday, Karzai said a skilled and knowledgeable population remains the key foundation for Afghanistan’s future development.
He once again expressed hope that schools and universities would reopen for Afghan women and girls.
Karzai stressed that the country’s progress and economic growth cannot be achieved without the participation of women and the presence of professional and educated cadres.
In another part of his message, the former president warned about the growing threat of water shortages in Afghanistan and urged citizens to avoid excessive use of underground water resources.
He also offered condolences to families affected by recent heavy rainfall and flooding across the country.
Karzai further remembered victims of Pakistani airstrikes and artillery attacks, writing: “During the days of Eid, we honor the memory of those killed in Pakistani air and artillery attacks and express sympathy with their grieving families.”
In recent years, Hamid Karzai has repeatedly emphasized the importance of girls’ education, women’s participation, and the creation of an inclusive political system in Afghanistan.
