Iranian sources familiar with ongoing diplomacy between Tehran and Washington say the Islamic Republic will not enter negotiations with the United States unless its frozen financial assets are released.
Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday that Iran has rejected any negotiations before progress is made on the issue of blocked Iranian funds.
According to the report, a source close to Iran’s negotiating team said talks would not be possible unless the United States fulfills commitments related to Tehran’s preconditions.
The release of Iranian assets and the easing of sanctions have remained among the main points of disagreement between Tehran and Washington in recent months.
At the same time, US officials say they are still giving diplomacy a chance but insist that any potential agreement must protect American interests.
Tensions between Iran and the United States continue as disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program, and sanctions relief remain central to ongoing negotiations and regional tensions.
