According to Israel’s Channel 12, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the Israeli military to halt military operations in Lebanon and adhere to a ceasefire arrangement.
Despite the reported directive, the Israeli military has stated that it will not withdraw from areas currently under its control in southern Lebanon and will respond to any threats or attacks directed against its forces or civilians.
The Israeli government has not yet issued an official statement confirming the report.
Meanwhile, The Jerusalem Post reported that Israel and Hezbollah have reached a ceasefire agreement, citing an Israeli source who confirmed the development.
However, only hours after the ceasefire reportedly came into effect, renewed violence was reported in southern Lebanon. According to available reports, at least 16 people were killed in fresh attacks.
Israeli authorities said the strikes were carried out in response to gunfire allegedly launched by Hezbollah following the ceasefire announcement.
Lebanon’s National News Agency also reported airstrikes and drone attacks targeting multiple locations in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.
The Israeli military stated that repeated Hezbollah attacks constitute violations of the ceasefire. It said Israeli forces remain committed to political directives supporting the truce but would continue responding to any attacks against Israeli civilians or military personnel.
Hezbollah, for its part, said it would respect the ceasefire arrangement but warned that it would react if Israel attempted to expand its military presence or occupy additional territory in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that nearly 4,000 people, including children and emergency responders, have been killed in Israeli attacks since March 2.
Israeli officials, meanwhile, said that 32 soldiers and four civilians have been killed during the same period.
The developments come amid broader regional diplomatic efforts. Under the reported terms of the recent understanding between the United States and Iran, military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, are expected to cease immediately and permanently.
Despite announcements of a ceasefire, events on the ground suggest that the situation remains fragile, with both sides accusing each other of violations and tensions continuing along the border.
