U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Washington and Tehran have finalized an agreement, describing it as a completed understanding between the two long-time adversaries.
In a statement published on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared: “The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone.”
The announcement marks what could become one of the most significant diplomatic developments in U.S.-Iran relations after months of political tensions, military confrontations and intensive negotiations.
Trump also stated that he had immediately ordered the removal of maritime restrictions imposed on Iran following the completion of the agreement.
According to the U.S. president, authorization has been granted for the unrestricted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while orders have also been issued to end what he described as a U.S. naval blockade against Iran.
Highlighting the importance of global energy trade, Trump wrote: “Ships of the world, start your engines; let the oil flow.”
The announcement has generated widespread attention because of the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes through which a significant share of global oil shipments passes.
Despite Trump’s declaration, the full details of the agreement have not yet been officially released. Key questions regarding implementation mechanisms, verification measures, security arrangements and the specific commitments undertaken by each side remain unanswered.
Iranian officials have not yet published a separate detailed account of the agreement’s final provisions.
Analysts expect additional information regarding the political, security and economic dimensions of the deal to emerge in the coming hours and days.
If confirmed and successfully implemented, the agreement could significantly reduce regional tensions, improve maritime security in the Gulf and open a new chapter in relations between Washington and Tehran after years of confrontation and mutual distrust.
