Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has confirmed that Tehran’s response to proposals from Donald Trump’s administration did not include discussions about closing Iran’s nuclear پرونده.
Speaking Monday during his weekly press briefing, Baghaei said the Islamic Republic’s current priority is “ending the war on all fronts.”
He stated that Tehran is primarily focused on ending regional conflicts, particularly in Lebanon, ensuring maritime security in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, and stopping what he described as “illegal US actions and maritime piracy against commercial vessels.”
Baghaei described Iran’s approach as “responsible and rational,” arguing that under current conditions “priorities must be recognized and addressed accordingly.”
He also emphasized that Tehran prefers to focus on immediate crises rather than issues that, according to him, “have already led to war at least twice.”
The remarks come after US President Donald Trump described Iran’s latest response to Washington’s proposals as “completely unacceptable.”
Responding to Trump’s criticism, Baghaei said: “The satisfaction of others is not important to us.”
The disagreement continues as indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington proceed through Pakistani mediation.
Reports suggest Iran’s response includes demands for guaranteed cessation of hostilities, sanctions relief, removal of maritime restrictions, and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
Analysts say Tehran’s decision to emphasize regional security and wartime issues instead of the nuclear file reflects an effort to shift the center of negotiations away from uranium enrichment and toward broader geopolitical and security concerns in the Middle East.
Experts also note that this strategy could allow Iran to delay direct nuclear concessions while increasing pressure on Washington to address regional escalation and maritime stability first.
