Israeli forces demolished dozens of commercial and industrial facilities in the town of Al-Eizariya, located in occupied East Jerusalem.
In a statement, the Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli forces used bulldozers to destroy around 40 shops and industrial establishments in the Al-Mashtal area.
According to the statement, three car wash facilities were also demolished during the operation.
Palestinian officials said Israeli forces withdrew from the area after carrying out the demolitions.
The Jerusalem Governorate warned that Israeli troops fired stun grenades and tear gas toward residents during the operation.
The governorate also stated that the demolitions were carried out despite a temporary order that had reportedly suspended the operation until May.
According to reports, the demolitions are part of a broader Israeli campaign targeting commercial centers in the area.
Dawood al-Jahalin, head of the Arab al-Jahalin village council, described the incident as a “real massacre of shops.”
Analysts say large-scale demolitions of commercial infrastructure in Palestinian areas could increase economic and social pressure on residents of East Jerusalem.
Experts also note that beyond the immediate destruction, such operations may contribute to longer-term shifts in the demographic and economic landscape of contested areas.
They warn that continued demolitions in Palestinian neighborhoods risk intensifying tensions between Palestinians and Israel, especially as Jerusalem remains one of the most sensitive and disputed issues in the broader conflict.
