Local sources in Nimroz province report that two brothers died from gas exposure while cleaning a well in the مهاجرآباد area of Zaranj city.
According to sources who spoke with Neday-e-Baluch media, the incident occurred a day earlier.
The victims reportedly lost consciousness after descending into the well for cleaning work and died from gas inhalation.
The two brothers were identified as Nisar Ahmad and Hussain.
No further details have yet been released regarding the type of gas involved or the safety conditions at the site.
Incidents involving toxic gas exposure in wells and confined spaces have repeatedly occurred across Afghanistan in recent years.
Safety experts say the absence of protective equipment, poor ventilation systems, and lack of safety training are among the primary causes behind such recurring tragedies.
According to specialists, in many parts of Afghanistan people enter wells and confined spaces without protective gear or proper safety standards, significantly increasing the risk of toxic gas poisoning and oxygen deprivation.
Analysts say the latest incident once again highlights broader infrastructure deficiencies and the lack of occupational safety mechanisms in underserved areas of Afghanistan.
Experts also warn that many of these deaths are preventable and reflect deeper structural problems related to poverty, weak labor protections, and limited access to emergency response and safety awareness.
