A group of Afghan journalists has issued a joint statement calling for the immediate and unconditional release of three detained media workers.
The journalists, identified as Shakeeb Nazari, Hamid Farhadi, and Bashir Hatef, have reportedly been held for more than nine months without access to a transparent legal process.
In their statement, media professionals expressed deep concern over the continued detention, describing it as a violation of fundamental human rights and a serious blow to freedom of expression.
They emphasized that journalism is not a crime and warned that detaining reporters restricts public access to information.
The group also called on international organizations and media advocacy bodies to increase pressure for the release of the detainees and to support Afghanistan’s media community.
The appeal comes amid broader concerns over shrinking media space and increasing restrictions on press activity in Afghanistan.
Angle Analysis:
The collective statement signals a growing pushback from within the media community, highlighting not just individual cases but a broader pattern of pressure on press freedom and legal transparency.
