“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has recorded a historic opening weekend, earning an estimated 927 million U.S. dollars worldwide and becoming the second-largest global box office debut in cinema history, behind only “Avengers: Endgame.”
According to published box office figures, the film generated 355 million dollars in the United States and Canada, while international markets contributed a further 572 million dollars.
China led overseas markets with 121 million dollars in ticket sales, making it the film’s strongest international territory during its opening weekend.
Tom Holland returns for a fourth time as Spider-Man, while Zendaya reprises her role as MJ. The story follows Peter Parker as he navigates a world in which everyone has forgotten his identity as Spider-Man.
The film has also received a strong critical and audience response, earning a 90 percent critics’ score and a 98 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Industry analysts say the film’s performance demonstrates the enduring global popularity of the Spider-Man franchise and could provide a significant boost to the summer box office, reinforcing confidence in theatrical releases after recent challenges facing the cinema industry.
