Venezuelan authorities say the death toll from the country’s devastating earthquakes has risen to 188 as emergency teams continue rescue operations in the affected regions.
Officials reported that at least 1,520 people have been injured, while search-and-rescue crews remain on the ground attempting to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
According to the latest official figures, around 200 people are still believed to be buried under the rubble, prompting an urgent race against time by emergency responders.
Authorities also said that thousands of people remain unaccounted for as assessments continue across the disaster zone, raising concerns that the number of casualties could increase further.
The earthquakes caused widespread destruction to homes, public infrastructure and essential services, leaving many communities in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Governments from several countries and the United Nations have expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela and announced their readiness to provide emergency humanitarian support.
Rescue operations, damage assessments and efforts to restore critical services remain underway as authorities continue to evaluate the full scale of one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent years.
