A young woman was allegedly shot dead by her former husband in Miramor district of Daikundi province, local sources told Nimruz TV.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday morning, August 24, in the Eskan area of Miramor district.
The victim was identified as Shakila, around 25 years old, while the alleged suspect was identified as Rahmat, around 35.
According to a local source, Shakila was traveling by motorcycle with her mother and brother toward the district center when her former husband stopped them on the way.
The source said Shakila was shot with a shotgun on the Eskan-Kopaj route and died at the scene.
The alleged suspect reportedly fled toward Tagab, the center of Miramor district. It remains unclear whether he has surrendered to the Taliban.
Sources said Shakila and her family were traveling to the district center that day to pursue a legal dispute over her dowry. Following her separation from Rahmat, she had reportedly sought payment of a $12,000 dowry.
The couple had lived in Kabul for several years and had two sons, aged around seven and five.
Sources said the couple separated several months ago following a family dispute and allegations by Rahmat’s family that Shakila had been involved in a relationship with another man.
Following a complaint from Rahmat’s family, Shakila and another man were detained by the Taliban in Kabul. According to sources, both were later found not guilty and released under a ruling by a Taliban provincial court in Kabul.
After their release, Shakila and Rahmat returned to Miramor, where their families live.
The sources said Shakila and Rahmat were also relatives and had married around 10 years ago. Rahmat reportedly holds US residency and had returned to Afghanistan in connection with the family dispute.
After returning to Miramor, Shakila filed a case at the district center seeking payment of her dowry. Sources said the case had gone through the relevant legal procedures and that a primary court judge was expected to issue a decision on Monday.
Shakila’s body has been taken to the local Eskan clinic for medical examination and documentation. Her family is in contact with the Miramor district authorities and is seeking the deployment of a team to investigate the incident.
The Taliban have not commented on the killing or the whereabouts of the alleged suspect.
