Public approval of U.S. President Donald Trump has fallen to its lowest level of his current presidency, according to a new Reuters poll.
Reuters reported Monday that only 33% of respondents said they approved of Trump’s performance in the White House, while 64% said they disapproved.
The latest figure represents a two-point decline from a Reuters poll conducted earlier this month, when 35% of respondents approved of Trump’s performance.
The 33% approval rating also matches the lowest level recorded for Trump during his first presidency, in December 2017.
The decline comes as concerns grow over the continuation of the U.S. war with Iran and the possibility that the conflict could become prolonged.
The poll suggests that a clear majority of respondents are dissatisfied with Trump’s performance, potentially increasing political pressure on the White House as it makes decisions over the war and broader U.S. foreign policy.
However, presidential approval ratings can shift rapidly in response to major political and military developments. Trump’s standing in the coming weeks is likely to depend in part on the trajectory of the conflict with Iran and the administration’s handling of the war.
The latest numbers therefore offer a snapshot of public sentiment rather than a definitive measure of Trump’s long-term political standing.
