The United States government has formally asked Congress to approve a supplemental spending package worth nearly $88 billion to cover additional military, security and diplomatic costs.
According to a request submitted by the White House Office of Management and Budget to House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday, the majority of the funding is intended to address urgent requirements arising from recent U.S. military operations against Iran.
More than $67 billion of the proposed package would be allocated to the Department of Defense. The request includes approximately $21 billion to replenish munitions used during recent operations, strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base and expand critical military capabilities.
The proposal also seeks roughly $300 million to reinforce security at U.S. embassies and diplomatic facilities across the Middle East and South Asia following attacks on several American diplomatic sites during the recent conflict.
In its letter to Congress, the White House said a significant portion of the emergency funding would support immediate operational requirements linked to the military campaign known as “Operation Epic Fury.”
The supplemental budget request must now be reviewed by lawmakers before being debated and voted on in both chambers of Congress. It has not yet received final legislative approval.
If approved, the package would represent one of the largest emergency national security funding requests submitted by the administration this year and reflects Washington’s continued focus on military readiness, regional security and diplomatic protection following recent tensions in the Middle East.
