
US media report that the armed suspect involved in the shooting near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been identified as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California.
According to reports, Allen was a guest at the Washington Hilton, where the high-profile event was being held, and was allegedly carrying multiple weapons, including firearms and knives.
CBS News reported that Allen had previously graduated from the California Institute of Technology and worked as a private tutor in Torrance.
Police said the suspect is currently hospitalized and is expected to be formally charged on Monday.
The incident has renewed scrutiny over security procedures surrounding politically sensitive gatherings in the United States, particularly regarding screening and access control at venues hosting senior officials and public figures.
