Sources say Mansoor Niazi, a journalist and television presenter with TOLOnews, was detained by Taliban authorities on Thursday, 17 Sawr.
According to the sources, no information has been made available regarding his whereabouts or condition since the arrest, and his family and relatives remain unaware of his situation.
Neither TOLOnews nor local Taliban officials have publicly commented on the reported detention so far.
The incident marks the second reported detention of a journalist by Taliban authorities within the past week.
Last Tuesday, Ahmad Jawid Niazi, owner of the Paygard News Agency, was also reportedly detained by the Taliban.
The continued arrests of journalists and media workers have intensified concerns about press freedom and the safety of reporters in Afghanistan.
Press freedom organizations and media advocacy groups have repeatedly warned that restrictions, detentions, and security pressures on journalists are shrinking Afghanistan’s media space and increasing the climate of fear surrounding independent reporting.
Analysts say the lack of transparency regarding the detention of journalists further deepens concerns over due process, access to legal protections, and the future of independent media under Taliban rule.
The repeated targeting of media figures also reflects broader tensions between information control and the role of journalism in documenting public realities inside Afghanistan.
