The Afghanistan Civil Society and Human Rights Network (ICSHRA) has announced the expansion of a campaign calling for the release of detained journalists in Afghanistan.
According to the organization, the initiative, which began as a journalist-led effort, has now entered a broader phase with increased participation from civil society actors.
The statement said more than 100 human rights defenders and media workers have joined the campaign, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Hamid Farhadi, Ahmad Shakib Nazari, and Bashir Hatef.
The campaign was launched in response to the detention of these journalists by Taliban authorities, which ICSHRA described as violations of freedom of expression and access to information.
The organization stated that the expansion of the campaign reflects growing concern over increasing restrictions on media activity and press freedom in Afghanistan.
ICSHRA called on the United Nations, particularly human rights bodies, as well as international media support organizations, to take immediate and effective action.
It also urged local and international media outlets to amplify coverage of the campaign and raise awareness about the situation of detained journalists.
The development highlights ongoing concerns about the state of media freedom and the treatment of journalists in Afghanistan.
