سه شهروند افغانستان در آتش‌سوزی عمدی یک موتر در ایتالیا جان باختند

Three Afghan nationals and one Pakistani citizen were killed after a vehicle was deliberately set on fire in southern Italy, in a case that authorities are investigating as a possible quadruple murder.

Italian police announced the arrest of two men in connection with the deaths of four agricultural workers in the Calabria region. Investigators allege that the suspects intentionally ignited a vehicle occupied by the victims, leading to a deadly blaze.

According to Italy’s state broadcaster RAI, the victims included three Afghan citizens and one Pakistani national. The two suspects taken into custody are also reported to be Pakistani citizens.

The incident occurred at a fuel station in the town of Amendolara, located in Calabria, a region that relies heavily on migrant labor in the agricultural sector.

Security camera footage published by Italian media reportedly shows the suspects pouring a flammable liquid onto the vehicle before setting it on fire. Investigators say the footage forms a central part of the criminal case.

Reports further indicate that one of the suspects attempted to keep the vehicle’s doors closed while the fire spread rapidly. Prosecutors believe this detail could support charges of intentional homicide.

One Afghan man who was inside the vehicle managed to escape the flames. He suffered serious burn injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Alessandro D’Alessio, the chief prosecutor in Castrovillari, confirmed that the bodies of the four victims were discovered inside the burned vehicle on Monday. Authorities have launched a wide-ranging investigation to establish the motive behind the attack.

Calabria is home to thousands of migrant laborers employed in agriculture. Advocacy groups and human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns about poor working conditions, exploitation, discrimination, and the vulnerability of migrant workers across parts of southern Italy.

NIMRUZ ANGLE

The case extends beyond a criminal investigation. It highlights the precarious reality faced by many migrant workers in Europe, particularly those employed in seasonal agricultural jobs. The victims were not only foreign workers but members of a labor force that often operates with limited protection and visibility despite its importance to local economies.

FINAL ANALYSIS

The deaths of three Afghan workers and one Pakistani laborer represent one of the deadliest recent incidents involving migrants in Italy. If investigators confirm that the fire was deliberately set and that the victims were intentionally trapped inside the vehicle, the case could intensify scrutiny of migrant safety, labor conditions, and violence targeting vulnerable communities. The outcome of the investigation may also shape broader discussions about migrant protections across Europe.
