Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Iran will be among the principal topics of discussion during his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
Speaking at the start of Israel’s weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said he and Trump would discuss “all important issues,” with Iran expected to feature prominently on the agenda. He did not provide additional details about the planned talks.
Netanyahu also said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had informed him during a telephone conversation that Washington intends to take action against the International Criminal Court (ICC). According to Netanyahu, Rubio described the court as a threat to justice and to the sovereign rights of democratic nations to exercise their authority.
Israeli media, including Channel 12, has reported that Netanyahu is expected to meet Trump at the White House on Tuesday. According to the report, the Israeli prime minister plans to present updated intelligence regarding what Israel describes as Iran’s efforts to rebuild its military capabilities and advance its nuclear programme.
Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear programme is exclusively for peaceful purposes and has consistently denied seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
As of publication, Iranian officials have not publicly responded to the reported agenda for the planned Trump-Netanyahu meeting.
The meeting is expected to take place amid continued regional tensions and ongoing international scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear activities, with Washington and Jerusalem maintaining close coordination on security issues while Tehran continues to reject allegations that its nuclear programme has military objectives.
