Three Afghan migrants have died and another remains missing after a drowning incident along the eastern coastline of Nowshahr in northern Iran, local rescue officials said.
Mojtaba Shams, head of the Nowshahr Lifesaving Association, said on Thursday that at least 15 Afghan nationals entered the waters despite storm conditions and official warnings against swimming.
According to Shams, rescue teams managed to save several people, but three victims lost their lives while search operations continue for one person who is still missing.
The victims were reported to be 12, 14 and 25 years old.
Officials said the group entered the sea in an area classified as hazardous, where swimming is prohibited because of strong currents and dangerous conditions.
Emergency authorities have once again urged the public to avoid entering the sea during storms and to respect safety restrictions in designated no-swimming zones to prevent similar tragedies.
The incident highlights the continued risks faced by beachgoers along parts of Iran’s Caspian coastline, particularly during periods of severe weather when sea conditions can change rapidly.
