U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Kuwait as part of a regional tour following the signing of the recent memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
Before arriving in Kuwait, Rubio held talks in the United Arab Emirates with senior Emirati officials, including the country’s leadership, focusing on implementation of the agreement with Iran, regional security, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to preserve stability across the Middle East.
Coinciding with Rubio’s arrival, the United States Embassy in Kuwait officially resumed operations after suspending activities during the Iran-U.S. conflict.
The U.S. State Department said emergency services for American citizens have been restored, while additional consular services will gradually return to normal operations.
According to the State Department, Rubio will travel to Bahrain after completing meetings in Kuwait. In Bahrain, he is expected to meet senior officials and participate in discussions with representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Washington says key objectives of the trip include overseeing implementation of the memorandum with Iran, ensuring maritime security, protecting freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and promoting regional stability.
Rubio is the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the region since the agreement between Washington and Tehran was signed.
The visit comes at a critical moment as regional governments closely monitor developments related to the implementation of the memorandum, maritime security arrangements and the broader impact of the agreement on Middle East stability. Gulf states remain particularly focused on the future of energy markets, shipping routes and long-term regional security cooperation.
