Fox News has reported that the methods allegedly used by Mojtaba Khamenei to remain hidden resemble the final years of Osama bin Laden’s life in hiding, according to comments from a counterterrorism analyst.
The report cites Omar Mohammed, a terrorism expert, who claimed Mojtaba Khamenei has been living in seclusion for nearly three months while relying on operational security methods similar to those used by the former al-Qaeda leader.
“America has pushed the leadership of the Islamic Republic into the same level of operational disappearance that bin Laden maintained for nearly a decade in Abbottabad,” Mohammed told Fox News.
According to the analyst, bin Laden avoided all forms of telecommunications while hiding in Pakistan and relied entirely on trusted couriers to deliver messages.
Mohammed argued that Iranian authorities appear to have learned from the Abbottabad experience that the safest hiding places are not necessarily remote areas, but heavily protected compounds located near military facilities.
He noted that bin Laden lived less than one kilometer from Pakistan’s main military academy while remaining concealed behind high security walls.
According to the report, similar locations in Iran could include fortified underground sites near facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The report comes as tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States remain high, fueling growing speculation about the security and whereabouts of senior Iranian leaders.
Iranian authorities have not publicly responded to the report.
