Taliban authorities have recently declared Kabul’s Omar Gulistan residential township state-owned, a decision that residents say has left thousands facing an uncertain future.
According to notices issued to residents, occupants were given 10 days to vacate their homes, although it remains unclear what actions will follow after the deadline.
Located in Kabul’s District 9, Omar Gulistan includes around 700 apartments and multiple commercial centers. Many residents say they were confronted with the decision without direct consultation or transparent case-by-case review, raising fears over the loss of homes and investments.
Some residents also report that parts of the complex, including several residential blocks and at least one club facility, have already been sealed.
While residents point to ownership documents approved under the previous government, Kabul Municipality under Taliban administration says the land was transferred to the state following a special court ruling and legal procedures.
The case has intensified broader concerns about transparency in land adjudication, investment security, and the future of residents in major housing developments across Afghanistan.
