The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Afghan refugees in Qatar to return to Afghanistan, as reports emerge about a possible transfer of some refugees to the Republic of Congo.
In a statement published on social media, the ministry said refugees had been asked to choose between returning to Afghanistan or relocating to a “third country.”
The statement described Afghanistan as a “shared home” for all citizens and said conditions are safe for returnees.
Taliban officials also claimed that there are currently no security threats in the country and that citizens are not forced to leave due to safety concerns.
The development comes as around 1,100 Afghan refugees in Qatar remain in limbo, awaiting possible resettlement in the United States.
The situation highlights ongoing uncertainty over the future of Afghan refugees, as competing options—return, relocation, or delayed resettlement—continue to raise concerns about safety and long-term stability.
