Naqibullah Elmyar, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Sar-e Pol province, says Taliban forces have arrested a man accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law in Kohistanat district.
The Taliban spokesperson did not provide further details regarding the identity of the suspect.
According to Elmyar, the man fled the area after allegedly shooting and killing the two women with a handgun on the previous night.
He said the suspect was later detained following what Taliban authorities described as “careful investigation and rapid action” by security forces.
No official motive for the killings has yet been announced.
Reports indicate that criminal incidents and cases of domestic violence have increased in several Afghan provinces since the Taliban’s return to power.
Many such incidents are linked to family disputes, forced marriages, inheritance conflicts, and economic pressures, with women and children often among the primary victims.
Women’s rights activists and social experts warn that worsening economic hardship, growing social restrictions, and weak protection mechanisms for vulnerable individuals may be contributing to a rise in domestic violence across Afghanistan.
Analysts say the issue reflects not only isolated criminal acts but also broader structural and social pressures affecting Afghan families under ongoing economic and social strain.
