Local Taliban authorities in Badakhshan province say four children were killed following a landslide in the region.
According to Abdulmutaal Rasikh, head of education at the 219 Omar-e-Salis Educational Corps in Badakhshan, the incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. on Friday in the area of Eilaq Koreha Dara, located in the village of Wajan Oshangan-e-Ulya.
He identified the victims as 15-year-old Abdulrahman, 13-year-old Abdulghani, 13-year-old Suleiman, and 10-year-old Abdulaziz.
The children were reportedly collecting clay used for traditional ovens when a sudden landslide buried them under debris, killing all four.
Authorities said the victims were related to one another.
The tragedy once again highlights the dangers posed by landslides and the lack of safety infrastructure in many rural parts of Afghanistan.
In remote communities across the country, economic hardship often forces children and families to work in unsafe environments to secure basic daily needs.
Observers say such incidents reflect not only environmental risks, but also the broader vulnerability faced by rural populations living with limited protection, infrastructure, and economic alternatives.
