Taliban authorities have confirmed that Wahidullah Asghari, former head of Afghanistan’s national snooker and billiards federation, was killed in an attack by armed individuals in Kabul.
Allah Mohammad Mashwani, a spokesperson for the sports administration, said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Officials described his death as “regrettable,” noting that Asghari had been active in the country’s sports sector for years.
Meanwhile, some sports sources reported that he had gone missing near his home in the Qala-e-Fathullah area before his body was later returned to his family. These details have not been independently verified.
Authorities have not yet identified a motive for the killing and say efforts are ongoing to find those responsible.
Some reports also indicate that snooker qualification tournaments linked to the Ariana Championship have been suspended following the incident.
The killing comes amid continued official claims of improved security, even as such incidents raise renewed concerns about safety conditions in the capital.
