Mohammad Yousuf Asrar, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Maidan Wardak, has announced that five people were killed and one other person injured in a traffic accident on the Kabul–Kandahar highway.
According to him, the incident occurred in Nerkh district of Maidan Wardak province.
Asrar said the accident happened after a Mazda vehicle collided with a Corolla car.
The injured individual was transferred to a medical center for treatment.
The Taliban police spokesperson blamed careless driving as the main cause of the accident.
The Kabul–Kandahar highway is considered one of Afghanistan’s busiest and deadliest roads, where dozens of people lose their lives every year in traffic-related incidents.
Experts say poor road infrastructure, excessive speed, reckless driving, weak traffic enforcement, and aging vehicles are among the main factors behind the high number of accidents on Afghan highways.
Analysts also note that limited emergency response services and the lack of modern transportation safety standards continue to worsen the human toll of road accidents across the country.
