The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) says Afghan media activist and Elham TV director Sayed Qasem Hashemi has been detained by Pakistani security forces.
In a statement issued Thursday, the organization said Hashemi was arrested by Pakistani police on the Abbottabad–Islamabad highway and later transferred to an unknown location.
According to the statement, his family has so far received no information regarding his whereabouts or condition.
AMSO expressed concern over the incident and noted that Hashemi moved to Pakistan following the political changes in Afghanistan.
The organization added that Sayed Qasem Hashemi has worked for years in journalism and cinema and is considered one of Afghanistan’s well-known media figures.
The detention comes amid growing concerns in recent months about the situation of Afghan journalists and media activists living in neighboring countries.
Media rights groups have repeatedly warned about increasing uncertainty and security risks facing Afghan journalists who left the country after the Taliban’s return to power.
