Taliban authorities have required students at Kabul University to sign a pledge committing to specific religious and behavioral rules.
According to sources, some students were forced to sign the document despite objections.
A copy of the pledge shows that students are required to follow the Hanafi school of Islam in the interest of maintaining unity.
The document also obliges students to organize their lives according to Islamic guidance, perform prayers in congregation and avoid behavior deemed un-Islamic.
It further requires students to wear what is described as “Islamic and Afghan clothing,” refrain from listening to music and comply with restrictions on personal conduct.
In another section, students are required to adhere to the Taliban’s “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” regulations.
The Taliban have not officially commented on reports that the pledge is being enforced.
