The Taliban Supreme Court says a man has been publicly flogged in Shortepa district of Balkh province.
According to the court, the individual was sentenced to 30 lashes on charges of illicit relations and also received a two-year prison sentence from a Taliban primary court.
The Taliban continue to carry out corporal punishments despite ongoing criticism from human rights organizations.
The group describes such punishments as enforcement of Islamic law.
Meanwhile, the human rights organization Rawadari said in a recent report that the Taliban carried out hundreds of corporal punishments over the past year, including the flogging of hundreds of individuals.
The report described these punishments as “cruel and inhumane.”
