UN Chief Says Hunger Should Not Block Children From Education

UN Secretary-General António Guterres says hunger should never prevent children from accessing education.

In a post on X on March 12, Guterres said school meal programs can play a vital role in supporting children and helping them stay in school.

He described school meals as a “lifeline” that can strengthen learning, dignity, and educational opportunities for children.

The UN chief stressed that providing nutritious food in schools is an essential investment, especially in crisis-affected countries such as Afghanistan where many children face malnutrition.
