UNICEF Warns of Rising Child Malnutrition in Afghanistan
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned that rising cases of malnutrition among children in Afghanistan are putting significant pressure on hospitals and health facilities across the country.
UNICEF expressed concern over the condition of children suffering from malnutrition and said that treatment should not be delayed until their health situation reaches a critical stage.
In a statement, the organization said: “We should not wait until a child becomes dangerously thin and lies on a hospital bed before we intervene.”
UNICEF added that, to prevent further deterioration in children’s health, the organization and its partners urgently need “more flexible and sustainable funding.”
The international organization emphasized that early intervention in cases of malnutrition and strengthening support programs can help prevent serious health consequences for children.
