Tajikistan says women’s participation in the country’s economy continues to expand, with women entrepreneurs now accounting for 27.8 percent of all business owners nationwide.
Speaking at a news conference attended by domestic and international media, Sultan Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, said the number of women entrepreneurs has surpassed 108,000.
According to Rahimzoda, most women-owned businesses operate in manufacturing, light industry, agriculture, handicrafts and small and medium-sized enterprises, making an important contribution to the country’s economic growth.
He also announced that Tajikistan’s financial and credit institutions have provided approximately 402 million U.S. dollars in financing to women entrepreneurs during the reporting period, representing a 26.4 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
At the same time, officials in the capital, Dushanbe, reported that more than 15,500 women are currently engaged in entrepreneurial and business activities across the city.
Government officials said supporting women entrepreneurs remains a national priority. Ongoing initiatives include business training, advisory services, preferential financing and support for home-based enterprises aimed at expanding women’s participation in the economy.
According to the authorities, these policies are helping create new employment opportunities while strengthening economic growth and improving the country’s long-term economic resilience.
