Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s regular armed forces have issued separate statements warning that they will respond to any potential U.S. intervention in the Strait of Hormuz and are prepared for a renewed confrontation if necessary.
The statements said Iran’s armed forces would not leave any action against the country’s security or national interests unanswered and stressed that military readiness remains in place.
At the same time, the United States representative to the United Nations Security Council said the international community should hold the Islamic Republic accountable for what was described as “crimes against the people of Iran and the international community.”
The latest statements come as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high, with the security of the Strait of Hormuz and the principle of freedom of navigation continuing to be among the main points of dispute between the two countries.
