At least 18 people have been killed and 29 others injured after a truck carrying Afghan migrants returning from Pakistan overturned in eastern Laghman province.
Abdul Malik Niazi, spokesperson for the Laghman governor, said the accident occurred on Friday morning in the Sarkhkan area of Qarghayi district.
According to local authorities, the vehicle was transporting returnees from Pakistan when it overturned, leaving a total of 47 people dead or injured.
Niazi stated that the victims include 10 children and five women among the dead.
He added that those injured in the incident have been transferred to Nangarhar Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Taliban local officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
Road accidents continue to claim thousands of lives across Afghanistan each year. Poor road conditions, excessive speed, vehicle overloading, and driver negligence are frequently cited as the main causes of such incidents.
The tragedy comes as Afghanistan faces a growing influx of returning migrants from neighboring countries, placing additional pressure on transportation networks and public services.
