UNICEF officials in Afghanistan report that approximately 12 million children received polio vaccinations over the past year, covering an estimated 98 percent of the target population.
Tajuddin Oywali, a UNICEF representative, said the campaign reflects significant progress in expanding immunization coverage across the country.
In addition to polio vaccines, more than 16 million people were vaccinated against measles during the same period.
The figures highlight the scale of public health efforts aimed at preventing infectious diseases, particularly among children.
Despite the high coverage, health experts continue to stress the importance of sustained vaccination campaigns to prevent future outbreaks and ensure long-term disease control.
