Local sources in Malistan district of Ghazni province told Afghanistan International that Taliban morality police have detained Mehdi Mehran, an Afghan YouTuber and social activist.
According to the sources, Mehran was arrested on Saturday, 19 Sawr, after being summoned to the district headquarters in Malistan.
Local sources also said Taliban authorities had previously detained the YouTuber last week.
Mehdi Mehran is known locally as a social activist and online content creator who publishes videos documenting cultural ceremonies, daily life, and local communities through his YouTube channel.
Residents in Malistan say Taliban authorities have increasingly summoned and, in some cases, detained social activists and social media users in recent months under various pretexts.
Local Taliban officials have not yet publicly explained the reason for the detention.
According to media watchdog organizations, the Taliban have detained dozens of journalists, media workers, and online content creators over the past four years while imposing growing restrictions on their activities.
In the latest reported case, the Afghanistan Journalists Center said on Sunday that at least three journalists had recently been detained in Kabul.
The continuing pressure on journalists, online activists, and digital creators has intensified concerns about freedom of expression and the shrinking space for online activity in Afghanistan.
Analysts warn that expanding monitoring and pressure on social media users reflects broader attempts to control digital narratives and public discourse inside the country.
