Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president’s special representative for Afghanistan, says Moscow is prepared to send additional humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan during the second half of this year if requested by the Taliban administration in Kabul.
Referring to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Kabulov said part of Russia’s food assistance has already been delivered to the country through the World Food Programme.
The Russian envoy stressed that Afghanistan continues to face one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises and requires greater support from the international community.
Kabulov also called for a stronger role for the United Nations in Afghanistan and urged the international community to increase practical efforts to address the country’s worsening humanitarian conditions.
At the same time, he expressed concern over declining budgets for international aid organizations and warned that reduced assistance could further worsen conditions for millions of Afghan citizens.
Afghanistan has faced severe economic crisis, rising poverty, unemployment, and large waves of returning migrants in recent years, while international organizations continue to warn about the deteriorating humanitarian situation across the country.
