The Afghanistan Freedom Front says it carried out a rocket attack against a Taliban military unit near the “Sherkat” area of Baharak district in Badakhshan province early Saturday morning.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group said the attack took place at approximately 3:00 a.m. and was followed by an armed confrontation between Freedom Front fighters and Taliban forces.
According to the statement, pre-identified Taliban military positions were targeted during the operation.
The Freedom Front said it does not currently have information regarding possible Taliban casualties resulting from the attack.
Local sources also told Nimruztv that they heard at least two rockets being fired in the area during the early hours of the morning.
The Taliban have not commented on the reported incident and have not released details regarding the alleged clash.
The Freedom Front had previously announced the launch of its spring operations in Badakhshan and claimed that Taliban forces had withdrawn from positions in some parts of the province.
Badakhshan has been among the provinces where anti-Taliban armed activity has been reported in recent months.
Several international organizations have also expressed concern about increasing militant activity and security challenges in northern Afghanistan.
As of now, the claims made by the Freedom Front remain independently unverified, and no official casualty figures have been released.
