An explosion targeted a Toyota Hilux vehicle in the Jalghar area of Faizabad, the capital of Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, on Monday morning, according to local sources.
Local sources said the blast occurred at around 10 a.m. on Monday, 28 September. Initial reports indicated that a Hilux vehicle was the target, but details about the vehicle and its occupants have not been independently confirmed.
Afghanistan International later reported that a representative of the Freedom Front claimed the group carried out the attack. The claim has not been independently verified, and the Taliban had not publicly commented on the incident at the time of reporting. No independent source has confirmed the identity of those targeted.
Information about possible casualties or property damage also remains unclear. Local reports initially provided no confirmed figures, and further details are expected as information from the scene becomes available.
The incident comes amid recent reports of armed activity and security incidents in Badakhshan. However, the available information does not establish whether Monday’s explosion is connected to those earlier events.
The latest reports therefore confirm an explosion and an alleged attack on a Hilux vehicle, while responsibility, the identity of the target, and any casualties remain subject to further verification.
